MuseumArtFair

The Friends of the Kenosha Public Museums are pleased to announce the 50th Annual Friends of the Museums Art Fair on Sunday, July 20, 2014 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. The Art Fair is held on the Museums Campus at 56th Street and First Avenue and includes outdoor booths and indoor booths at the Kenosha Public Museum and Civil War Museum. More than 100 exhibitors will be on hand for this annual summer family event which attracts thousands of visitors from around the area. Stroll through the beautiful lakefront setting and enjoy fine art and craft displays.

Enjoy live musical entertainment on the outdoor stage. Various food tents will offer hot dogs, brats, Italian meatball bombers, pizza, popcorn, soda, and more. Children can create their own art at the Kids Art Tent located just north of the fountain. A raffle will be held to benefit the Museums. Prizes include a cash prize and donated fine art and craft items. The Art Fair Awards presentation will begin at 2pm at the outdoor stage. Paula Touhey, artist and former Museum director, will serve as the judge for this year’s Art Fair.

The Honorary Purchase Award this year is named for Franklin Schaefer. It was Mr. Schaefer and his father who first discovered the presence of a mammoth on their Kenosha County farm in 1964. In 1992, he allowed the excavation of the mammoth on his property by the Museum and generously donated the bones to the Kenosha Public Museum. The Museum’s subsequent research on the Schaefer Mammoth proves that the mammoth was butchered by humans using stone tools 14,300 years ago. It documents the presence of Paleoindians living in North America 1500 years earlier than previously thought. After twenty years of research, it is one of a handful of oldest archaeological sites in North America.

The Friends of the Museums are pleased to welcome the KUSD Summer Student Art Show this year. Student art work will be displayed in the classrooms inside the Kenosha Public Museum. KUSD student musical groups will perform on the Mezzanine inside the Kenosha Public Museum throughout the day. The Pie and Ice Cream Booth benefits the KUSD Fine Arts Program.

Plan to spend the day at the Friends of the Kenosha Public Museums Art Fair. The Friends of the Kenosha Public Museums present this art fair annually to support new exhibits at the Kenosha Public Museum, Civil War Museum and the Dinosaur Discovery Museum.
