SUELLYN SCOON’s first studio was just 16 inches by 23 inches, about the size of a cutting board! In fact, that’s exactly what it was! an old wooden cutting board that she placed on her lap or propped up against anything that would stabilize it. It was portable, affordable, and the only thing available to an exhausted mother with four little boys. Over the years she had to adapt to many types of studies in cities and countries around the world, but they all have one thing in common with her cutting board studio: the ability to trigger my mind to enter a place of pure raw possibilities along with the unabashed joy that an artist alone in her studio experiences.

We are honored to be showing some of her earliest works of and this is a chance to own your own SCOON

JON LANGFORD, (Oct. 11, 1957) is a prolific and respected visual artist. His punk rock instincts and unparalleled draftsmanship come together in a painting style that is distinctive, engaging and challenging. His paintings appear on cd’s (his own and other’s), book covers, as well as beer bottles for the Dogfish Head Brewery. His multimedia music/spoken-word/video performance, “The Executioner’s Last Songs,” premiered at Alverno College in 2005, and has been performed in several other cities, including Austin. He illustrated the comic strip Great Pop Things under the pseudonym Chuck Death. Since 2005 he has co-hosted a weekly radio program, “The Eclectic Company,” broadcast on WXRT 93.1 in Chicago. He has contributed to NPR’s This American Life.

The Immigration Experience Illustrated is a collaborative exhibition featuring UW-Parkside Graphic Design Students, Gateway Graphic Design Students and Gateway English Language Learning Students on the concept of Immigration. This Image and Word project is a reflection on personal experiences or based on historical research on what Immigration looks like today.
